Skye always felt like she was a disappointment to her family, particularly to her father who successfully restored his father's (Skye's Grandfather) business after the business' assets were primarily wiped out by the nuking of the Lunar Business Zone.
Skye however, felt she was nothing more than an extra mouth to feed on a ship as her few accomplishments in life paled in comparison to the successful man her father is. Her parents moved near the frontier of the Berruti Alliance's systems to take advantage of “Business opportunities in the new land” when Skye was still quite young.
Around the age of 12, maybe 13, Skye learned what happened between Cascadia and the UN, and upon realizing that her own father ran a business that supported the BA, which she saw as a child of the UN, vowed to put an end to the throne her father had built on the ruins of countless people dead, no matter how long it took.
When she was 20, she fled the system she was in to get away from her parents by being a stowaway on an large cargo hauler that was going through the jump bridge to a newly colonized sector of space.
When the cargo ship Skye was on arrived, it slowly plotted a course across the system to reach the colony on the other side of the jump bridge. This was when she discovered an old light cargo transport meant for a single pilot aboard. Skye had never flown a ship outside of a few simulators, none of which were super fancy like fighter pilots used, and yet she saw this as her chance out, a chance to start a new life.
Skye boarded the ship, an old dusty thing, probably on it's way to be scrapped somewhere else, and after fiddling with the controls, managed to somehow open the hangar door on the cargo ship she has stowed away on. Without a second thought she flung the ship out of the storage bay and tumbled towards the nearby moon. Skye spun nearly uncontrollably, but as she entered the gravity well of the moon, she was able to bring the ship to a stop and took some time to think… it was time for a new life.
