Backstory:

Aelsius was always considered brilliant by his parents and they pushed him to develop that talent.  He pushed back.  He understood he had a gift for patterns, planning, and numbers, but that didn't interest him.  What interested him was what was beyond the next horizon, beyond the next star.

His grades were average, which lead him to an average university, which in turn brought him to an average job constructing ships for the grinder that was the military.

It was there he met Kieran, an oddball for sure, but one that saw the talent Aelsius was hiding away and helped nourish it.

The two became good friends and soon, both left their jobs on the assembly belt and started up PNX.

Before leaving Sol, PNX was a small but upcoming industrial corporation.  They were able to claim no less than 25k people on their payroll among all the colonies which involved both research and construction.  They even had secured contracts with BA itself to help build new ships of the line with some of Kieran's AI programs installed among them.

Sitting aboard one of the BA ships with Kieran, his lead AI developer, they didn't know what was happening when the sirens had gone off.  They were both too engrossed in their datapads.  Doors screeched shut as compartments were forcibly decompressed, debris flying past their window.

They both buckled in as their seats were lowered into the escape pods.  The last time Aelsius saw Kieran was him handing him the datapad that held his new creation, Syren, and thrusting his fist into the air.

"I'm gonna make a like a bakery truck and haul buns."
